[Lyrics Translation] Modify (Doctrine Doctrine)
"Modify" by Doctrine Doctrine - Song Lyrics Translation
Title: 「モディファイ」
Artist: Doctrine Doctrine
Album: Darlington
Vocals: Miyashita Yuu 「宮下遊」
Songwriter: seeeeecun 「しーくん」
When the crossfade was released, at first I misheard him saying "fxcking" and with those tunes I thought this song was a sultry song when in fact it's a song about being fed up of work dksjfhs
fun fact: seeeeecun wrote this song while being sick and also fed up @ his work
This song has very catchy tunes and lyrics - in the original Japanese lyrics, a lot of parts are made to rhyme and I tried to cross that over to my English translated version too while staying feasible to sing in English. I am not good in poetry so I tried to adapt it to suit the tone of the lyrics at hand. As Japanese and English vary in basic structure and grammar, the translated lyrics may not reflect the exact word-to-word in order. Enjoy!
Modify
I'm getting fed up
It's like a landmine
I gave my answer, I put my shoes on
A rainy hiking,
A stream of whining,
It's not rolling, no longer rolling
A growing bud from somewhere beyond
It came to life
Its existence festered, it flourished as if it's welling up
"Not good enough, not good enough, seriously"
I want to live without anxiety, without pain
Is it impossible?
Tomorrow, yet again,
Back to the lifeless "working space"
Maria
Tomorrow, as always,
Verbally insulted,
"You're worthless, do you have no brain?"
"This is why you will not succeed in life."
"Get it done by tomorrow."
Self-fulfillment?
Self-reliance?
Self-growth?
Give me a break
These values have been dumped
into a box called the corporate
Yes, that's right
Individuality or teamwork?
Which one is it?
Make up your mind
A list of 10 template answers, prepared for convenience
Seems like the Patrolman have found my rant account
Maybe trust is dead, perhaps it left
Maybe I need to compensate till the day I become a grave
Lying in wait, are the mimics
The spot they wanted, is it still tied up?
This is how it is, this is how I am
I only filled a spot
I struggled
With no hope, and no future
Only existing, barely holding on
Tomorrow, back to
where I have no human rights, (the) working space
Maria
Word has it that, a drop of blood determined how high you jump*
"This is why you will not succeed in life."
"Get it done by tomorrow."
"Honestly I couldn't care less about someone like you"
Is your mind filled with nothing else but gold-scattering gods?
I see, right
From somewhere beyond an alarm rings
The other end of the line, I hear booing, booing
Do it do
Now, give it back to me with dignity
My, my heart
I jumped, grabbed his collar
Bye days~
Maria
Tomorrow, as always,
Verbally insulted,
"You're worthless, have you no brain?"
Criminals don't kiss and tell
Whatever the reason, I did it all
Self-defense?
Self-protection?
Self-breakdown?
So, which one?
But there's a part of me inside that feels a sense of relief
Hey, Maria
Tomorrow, as always,
Verbally insulted,
"You're worthless, do you have no brain?"
"This is why you will not succeed in life."
"Get it done by tomorrow."
Course-correction,
Course-correction,
Course-correction
I've had enough
If it's sense of values you ask, I ate it long ago
Well, whatever
Note:
*I took liberties; the literal translation (which I went for prior) is "They say crimson liquid decided the long jump", but I changed it after posting because it seems to have a bit more of a morbidly poetic undertone natively; given the job-centric disillusionment theme of this song, red liquid solidifying a long jump could well hint at nepotism, i.e. promotion to lucrative positions being decided by blood relations. It could also have a double meaning/connotation of "blood tainting the promotions", i.e. sabotaging or stepping over a coworker to get promoted.
I have also changed the wording of other lines, I think it's more possible to sing it in English following the original song now... I think.
